The Three Pillars of Body Mechanics and Your Health
Pillar No. 1: Mobility
If any joints in the spine aren’t moving properly, then the joints that are functioning properly have to take on more work. This can place unnecessary strain and stress on the areas that are mobile and lead to inflammation and pain. It also causes instability and leaves you more susceptible to injury.
Pillar No. 2: Alignment
This is an area the chiropractors at The Joint are familiar with! When your body is in proper alignment and free from joint restriction or dysfunction, then your spine can support your body’s weight. The spine is designed to be incredibly efficient and resilient, but if it’s suffering from a dysfunction or restriction, then the stress and load it should be carrying will need to be picked up by other body systems – systems not necessarily designed to carry a load as the spine is. This leads to stress in the muscles that causes fatigue and leaves your body open to injury.

Stability is achieved through coordinated, strong, and balanced muscles. Your muscles become stronger or weaker based on demand. If you don’t exercise and challenge your muscles, then they will become weaker and an imbalance in the body can occur. If unchecked, these imbalances will only become worse, leaving you with poor posture, pain, and muscle spasms as a result.

Spine Adjustment (Chiropractic)

Chiropractic comes from the Greek word-cheir, which means ‘hand’, and prattein, which means ‘treatment’. It was the word used for medical treatments that uses only the hands without surgery or the use of drugs, however, today; the word is used for treatment for backbone correction. It became known to the world when around 1895; Dr David Palmer established the principle in terms of medical science of chiropractic. At the time, it was an integrated treatment that included massage therapy,water therapy, light therapy, magnetic treatment, homeopathy and bone setting. When the intervertebral disks get contracted, which in turn represses the 31 threads of spinal nerves from the spinal cord, causing functional problems, chiropractic is a scientific field that treats such condition by adjusting the spine by hand, helping the body to cure it self naturally. It is recognized worldwide in 70 countries as a formal medical practice.

Thermotherapy

Thermotherapy usually uses either conduction heat or radiant heat, in terms of former, there are methods that uses sand, warm bath, paraffin wax, thermo bath and steam bath. As for radiant heat method, there are electronic light bathing, UV ray method, and high frequency method. Thermotherapy helps to improve blood circulation, stimulates the metabolism, and reduces pain, muscle tension, so it is known to help to improve the conditions of, arthritis, muscle pain and other chronic inflammation and also it helps to recover from fatigue.

Finger-Pressure

Since the early times, men instinctively touched, rubbed or pressed around area of pain. And during such repetitive process, men found areas where physical stimulation relieved or effective in healing particular sickness. This developed into finger-pressure therapy. Therefore finger-pressure therapy started with the beginning of mankind. The most common form of finger-pressure therapy is actually the eastern massage therapy. Then this method developed into using other devices instead of using hands – acupuncture and moxibustion.
Finger-pressure therapy is fundamentally based on the acupuncture points defined in the eastern medicine, but it also does add the western massage and chiropractic concepts.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of thermotherapy that started from mildly burning the areas of pain. It involves adding various kinds of medicinal herbs to the treatment. Its theoretical background is based on meridian pathways and the acupuncture points. This method developed as a method of stimulation that provides acupunctural treatments, that is as effective as pharmaceutical treatments. Today, moxibustion is being acknowledged as a medical method that corrects the functions of body organs.

Practitioners often do both acupuncture and moxibustion in the same clinic session when appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment strategy. Practitioners believe that the therapies increase each other’s effectiveness when used together.
Unlike acupuncture, which is almost always done by a trained practitioner in a clinic setting, moxibustion can be easily used at home. It is not uncommon for Chinese medical practitioners to train their patients to use moxa on themselves to strengthen the effect of the clinical sessions between appointments.
